In my working life the concept of Cloud Computing comes up in discussion all the time whether it is looking at migrating SAAS applications over to the Cloud or developing applications to run in the Cloud from the launch.
You still have to put the idea over to the project stake-holders and investors and sometimes it is hard to explain the concept in a concise and simple way, I recently found this video created by Common Craft which explains the concept so simply.
Currently the development projects that are being discussed or I am currently working on are around SAS products and tools to integrate within existing collaborative platforms. The architecture of Google Wave is explained clearly in this video and it has shaped the way that I am structuring these developments. Its worth the hour to watch this.
Still trying to get a invite for Google Wave and reading everything I can on it at the moment. Found this really good video explains Google Wave. As open source products go this may have the most impact on web development so I am following with great interest.
I attended the CloudCamp event in Edinburgh University last night and was really impressed by the format, turn out and the most Pizza I have ever seen in one location. There were well over 100 attendees and some fantastic speakers the event passed quickly.
Also a quick pitch from the Open Source Software Awards
There was a lot of focus on using the Cloud in commercial applications to support scalability and costing with some good demonstrations. I will be looking to use more Cloud based technology as the caching of pages in the Cloud is of interest.
I have just been watching this and think that Goggle may have just unveiled the future of collaboration software. Although in its infancy and with concerns around security and other elements this should make dispersed team communication much easier and may spell the end of share-point as a corporate tool in it current form. (I can see Microsoft moving in this direction as well).
