Hans Rosling: Let my dataset change your mindset

Hans Rosling clearly presents information which shows the changes over time in the health and poverty in the world, the visual style and presentation of the data is exceptional.

Talking at the US State Department this summer, Hans Rosling uses his fascinating data-bubble software to burst myths about the developing world. Look for new analysis on China and the post-bailout world, mixed with classic data shows.

        CloudCamp Scotland

CloudCamp ScotlandI attended the CloudCamp event in Edinburgh University last night and was really impressed by the format, turn out and the most Pizza I have ever seen in one location. There were well over 100 attendees and some fantastic speakers the event passed quickly.

          The speakers included:

          • Alexis Richardson of RabbitMQ as MC
          • Max Robbins on Geo-balancing from aiCache
          • Mike Goodwin of Sage on the Cloud from a ISV viewpoint
          • Steve Caughey from Arjun
          • Also a quick pitch from the Open Source Software Awards

There was a lot of focus on using the Cloud in commercial applications to support scalability and costing with some good demonstrations. I will be looking to use more Cloud based technology as the caching of pages in the Cloud is of interest.

Eben Moglen Software and Community in the Early 21st Century

One of the best presentations on the I have seen was given by Eben Moglen at the Plone Conference in 2006, It touches the challenges and possibility’s that face both community and software. It shows a great understanding of history and vision of the evolution of the future.

I love the concept of “the Mathematics Sellers” and the “Transportation” he uses to begin the presentation from a common point of understanding.
