Today as Institute of Business Consulting (IBC) Chair in Scotland I attended the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) in Glasgow. The event was well attended by the active CMI members in Scotland along with several members of key CMI staff.

The opening speech by Derek Little covered the change in leadership and the impending re-branding of CMI to better address the new developments within the institute.

The rest of the day was taken up with discussions on the development of Scottish Region, Membership Services and the Ambassador Programme.

Ian Andrew reviewed the last year of achievements and events from with in the Scottish Region with over 60 members events along with the relationships that have been established with other professional bodies, the benefits of the relationships with Universities and  the work with larger organisations has made some head way.

The improvements to Member Benefits and the development of the online resources were explained to the group although there has been some progress and a new version and services will be launched in January so I await and hope that these improvements match up to the expectation that has been created.

The other new initiative that was mentioned although in it early stages was the Ambassador programme which is looking to support and build evangelists for CMI. This I believe has potential to support the growth of CMI but it needs to developed more before its full potential is realised. There are several examples of evangelists being used to grow support organisations and membership.

Over all I thought the convention was good and interesting points were made about ethics in management and what the future challenges to management will be. The final discussion and possibly the most interesting part of the event dealt with this and the direction that CMI will take on these issues.

Its important that IBC and CMI move in to a closer relationship and after todays event I am more confident that these relationships can be formed at a members level within Scotland.
