Having worked with several manufacturing and process based environments, I have become familiar with Chain Theory both through research and practical experience over time. This being my initial introduction to the Theory of Constrains.

The Chain Theory is the foundation of much of TOC thinking and fundamental in understanding CCPM (Critical Chain Project Management). The understanding of chain theory has improved my scheduling of projects and understanding of systems.

Working with complex systems it is critical that you have a understanding of TOC and understand about regulating the speed of individual process based on that of the slowest in the chain. The movement to efficient work flow management in manufacturing and a more realistic approach to project management have their roots in chain theory.

I found this great video by Henri Martens son which explains Chain Theory extremely well.
