Teaching

Teaching is one of the most consistently rewarding aspects of my practice. Whether introducing a beginner to the first movements of Taijiquan, working through the conditioning fundamentals of sumo, or exploring the classical methods of Yangsheng with someone deepening an established practice — there is something irreplaceable about the moment when understanding passes between people and begins to take root in the body.

My teaching spans three interconnected areas, each with its own depth and its own demands, but all oriented toward the same underlying aim: the development of genuine understanding through direct, consistent practice.

Yangsheng — Nourishing Life

Yangsheng (養生) is the classical Daoist framework for understanding how a human being can live well — encompassing movement, breath, meditation, and the cultivation of vitality across the whole of life. Teaching in this area covers the full range of classical practices: Daoyin, Tu Na breath cultivation, tranquil sitting, Zuowang meditation, and Neidan internal alchemy. All teaching is grounded in classical texts and the practices they preserve, following the model of cultivation, refinement, and practice realisation.

Taijiquan

Taijiquan (太極拳) is a classical Chinese martial art built on principles of structural integrity, sensitivity, and the intelligent use of force. I teach Yang-style Taijiquan, covering the full curriculum of the art — Jiben Gong foundational skills, the hand form, Zhan Zhuang standing practice, Tui Shou partner work, and martial application. Teaching follows the same model of patient, progressive refinement that the art itself demands.

Sumo

Sumo (相撲) is Japan’s oldest martial art — a complete grappling system rooted in Shinto tradition and governed by principles of dignity, composure, and respect. Teaching covers the full training curriculum: Shiko, Suriashi, Koshi-wari, Teppo, Tachiai, Butsukari geiko, and the systematic development of kimarite winning techniques. Training is open to all levels and all body types.
